Special session

Cluster 5 & 6 Special Session: “Regional Science and Tourism”

As part of the 26th Pacific Conference of the RSAI (PRSCO), to be held jointly with the 59th Annual Meeting of the WRSA in Waikiki, Hawaii from March 18 to 21, 2020, Nectar clusters 5 and 6 are organizing a Special Session on “Regional Science and Tourism”. The website for submission is now open (www.wrsaonline.org). Short abstracts, as well as full papers (also in draft format), will be accepted for the Special Session. Full papers benefit from the traditional WRSA 45-minute per paper time slot. The submission deadline is November 15, 2019, for full-length original papers (not previously published). Call for Abstracts – Special sessions at WCTR SIG G3 Urban Transport Planning and Policy

Various special Sessions related to “urban transport planning and policy” will be organised at the AIIT 2nd International Congress “TIS ROMA 2019: Transport Infrastructure and Systems in a Changing World” in collaboration with the Italian Association for Traffic and Transport Engineering (AIIT), at the Automobile Club d’Italia Headquarters in Rome 23-24 September 2019. The call for abstracts (due by 12th February 2019) can be found here.


Special Session SS10: Predicting spatial impacts of automated vehicles

Marcin Stepniak, Veronique van Acker and Nikolas Thomopoulos are organizing a special session at the Regional Studies Association Annual Conference which will be held in Santiago de Compostela, 5-7th June 2019. The theme of special session is “Predicting Spatial Impacts of Automated Vehicles”. Submission deadline for abstracts is 28th February 2019. More details can be found here.

Workshops on “Impacts of new mobility services from the viewpoint of Local Communities and Regions”

WCTR-Society’s Special Interest Group G2 “National and Regional Transport Planning and Policy” is organizing intermediate workshops “Impacts of new mobility services from the viewpoint of Local Communities and Regions” in this autumn. We would like to share the invitation to these upcoming mid-term events in Vienna (24-25 September 2018) and Beijing (13 October 2018).

2018 International Geographical Union Regional Conference

The Transport and Geography Commission of IGU is organizing four themes of special sessions in the IGU 2018 Regional Conference, 6-10 August in Quebec City :

  • Big data for mobilities studies: Applications and critical perspectives
  • Relationships between airline networks, distance and technological change
  • Effects of transport investment on regeneration and social inclusion
  • Impacts of High Speed Rail

The Early Bird (cheapest rate Conference Fee) has been extended to 28th February.

** Submission Procedure:

Please send your abstract (max 250 words, including the object of study, research problem, methods, and conclusions), authors’ affiliation and contact details to the targeted session’s convener(s) as soon as possible (and in any case by 8 March).

Accepted contributors will then need to submit their abstract to the conference by 15 March 2018 at 11:59 pm EST through http://igu2018.ulaval.ca/registration-submission/how-to-submit/ .

This last step involves to first pay conference fees (see pricelist at http://igu2018.ulaval.ca/registration-submission/fees/).

Mobile Tartu 2018

International Conference on 27-29th of June 2018 in Tartu, Estonia


The aim of the event is to discuss theoretical, methodological and empirical aspects of research using mobility data – derived from mobile phone or crowd-sourced social media – and explore practical applications of this data in scientific research, planning, governance and location based services.

In addition, Mobile Tartu 2018 proposes special events:

1) PhD course “Mobile phone based data collection field experiment” on 27th of June

2) “Mobile phones, travel and transportation” organised by NECTAR (http://www.nectar-eu.eu/).

3) “Sensor Data for Smart City” organized by SmartEnCity project of EU H2020 (http://smartencity.eu/)

4) BIG mobile data in official statistics
